The Low-Down on the 2009 Tax Rebate
Congress recently passed legislation to help jump-start the property ladder. They are offering a tax rebate - up to $8000 - which does NOT have to be repaid - ever! Be sure to ask your tax advisor for further details, but in summary, here are the regulations: The rebate is only for first time buyers, or those who have not owned a home in the past 3 years. Purchases must take place during 2009. Applicants must make less than $150k per year jointly. It is for 10% of the purchase price up to $8000. If you can't wait until your 2009 tax filing, it can be claimed with your 2008 Tax Return if you want to file an amended return.
